Lincoln Alexander Advocacy Society

LAAS

Special Clubs and Affiliates

The Lincoln Alexander Advocacy Society (LAAS) is a student–led organization focused on supplementing LASL’s advocacy program by working behind the scenes to support initiatives related to mooting and lawyering skills. Advocacy is a fundamental skill for law students and we believe that everyone at LASL should have the chance to develop these skills through mooting, negotiating, and other advocacy opportunities in both competitive and non-competitive settings. LAAS also works with many LASL clubs and associations to provide access and support to a variety of advocacy-related initiatives and resources.

Lincoln Alexander Business Law Society

LABLS

Clubs (Practice Areas)

The Lincoln Alexander Business Law Society is a student-run organization committed to fostering interest and excellence in corporate, commercial, and broader business law among law students at the Lincoln Alexander School of Law. Our mission is to bridge the gap between legal education and the dynamic world of business by providing students with meaningful opportunities to explore the field through speaker events, panel discussions, networking sessions, mentorship programs, and skills-based workshops.

We aim to connect students with legal practitioners, academics, and alumni to deepen their understanding of business law and support their professional development. Whether students are exploring the foundations of corporate law or preparing for careers in mergers and acquisitions, securities regulation, or entrepreneurship, the LABLS seeks to serve as a platform for growth and engagement.

Lincoln Alexander International Law Society

LAILS

Clubs (Interest / Community Service)

The purpose of the Lincoln Alexander International Law Society (LAILS) is to create a vibrant community for students who are interested in exploring topics within the field of international law or pursuing careers in this area. Founded on three main pillars—to advocate, to inform, and to discuss—LAILS promotes global awareness, fosters dialogue on pressing international legal issues, and provides opportunities to learn from experts, build professional connections, and develop skills for an interconnected legal landscape.

Throughout the year, LAILS hosts a variety of events, including an annual career panel featuring practitioners from diverse areas of international law, as well as International Law Week, a multi-day series of panels, workshops, and networking opportunities organized in collaboration with other Canadian law schools.

In January 2025, LAILS proudly hosted the school’s first Baby Jessup Moot—a public international law moot court competition exclusively for first-year law students. The Baby Jessup is inspired by the world-renowned Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, the largest and most prestigious moot court competition in the world, attracting thousands of top students from more than 500 law schools in over 80 countries. Last year’s Baby Jessup at Lincoln Alexander School of Law was the largest moot in Canada, bringing together 64 participants from three law schools in Ontario.

This year, we are determined to keep the Baby Jessup tradition at Lincoln Alexander strong—but we can’t do it without dedicated 1Ls ready to compete. This is your chance to develop your advocacy skills, immerse yourself in international law, and represent our school while making a name for Lincoln Alexander in the Canadian mooting community. Your participation is essential to keeping the Baby Jessup as a proud legacy of our law school for years to come.
